Riverside County, CA – July 22, 2024
Early this morning, the City of Riverside Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire in the 400 block of Columbia Avenue. The fire, which initially covered approximately 2 acres with a potential to spread to 75 acres, prompted immediate action from local fire teams.
By 8:09 a.m., fire crews had been dispatched to the scene. Air resources and additional engines were requested to support the firefighting efforts, particularly for structure defense in the Mt. Vernon area.
As of 12:45 p.m., the fire had grown to 35 acres. Incident command reported that five additional Type 3 engines and two water tenders were called in to assist. The blaze presented a moderate threat to structures on the Mount Vernon side.
Despite the challenging conditions, the fire has now been 35% contained. The fire’s mapped size is 57.7 acres. Thanks to the tireless work of emergency responders, evacuation warnings have been lifted, and the situation is under control.
