Early this morning, a tragic accident occurred on northbound Interstate 215, just north of State Route 60, resulting in one fatality. At approximately 2:08 A.M., the Inland Communication Center (ICC) reported a crash involving multiple vehicles.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Riverside office, the collision involved a 2014 Kenworth tractor, a 2023 Nissan sedan, and a 2009 Mercury SUV. The Kenworth and Nissan were stopped in traffic due to prior collisions on the freeway. However, the driver of the Mercury SUV failed to notice the halted traffic and crashed into the rear of the Kenworth before striking the Nissan sedan.
Emergency services responded swiftly, but the driver of the Mercury SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene by Fire Department personnel prior to the CHP’s arrival. The identities of the individuals involved have not yet been released.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident and will provide further details as they become available. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and remain aware of their surroundings, especially in areas with heavy traffic and potential hazards.
