San Diego, CA – A high-speed chase in San Diego ended with the arrest of a suspect early this morning after he crashed a stolen BMW and fled on foot.
At approximately 7:55 a.m. on July 13, 2024, an officer from the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) noticed a BMW illegally double parked on the 3500 block of 35th Street. Upon running the vehicle’s license plate, the officer discovered that the BMW had been reported stolen.
When the officer attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver spotted the patrol car and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The ensuing pursuit involved the suspect running multiple stop signs and led to a felony evasion charge.
The chase continued onto the 3800 block of 37th Street, where the suspect lost control of the stolen BMW and crashed into a parked car. Despite the crash, the suspect managed to escape on foot. However, he was quickly apprehended by the officer on the 3800 block of 38th Street.
During the investigation, narcotics and needles were discovered both in the car and on the suspect. Additionally, an 8-inch chef’s knife and a Securitas security badge were found on the driver-side floorboard of the BMW.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation, suspected of being under the influence of narcotics. He was subsequently placed under arrest on multiple felony charges, including possession of stolen property and evasion.
Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the suspect’s activities and the implications of the items found in the vehicle.
