A high-speed chase in San Bernardino ended with a dramatic crash and a widespread power outage early Saturday morning. The incident began around 12:30 AM when California Highway Patrol (CHP) attempted to pull over a white sedan traveling at high speeds on the Eastbound 10 Freeway near the 215 Interchange.
The vehicle, which failed to yield, led officers on a pursuit. After exiting at Waterman Avenue, the suspect’s vehicle disappeared from view, but CHP regained sight of it near E Street and Inland Center. The suspect continued northbound on E Street at speeds ranging from 80 to 90 MPH.
As the chase approached the intersection of E Street and Rialto Avenue, the suspect stopped and let out a passenger. The vehicle then continued north on E Street before crashing into a power pole at the intersection of E Street and 36th Street.
Emergency responders were able to extract the driver from the wreckage and take him into custody. The driver, who was reported to be non-compliant and combative with both officers and medical personnel, was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not immediately disclosed.
There were reports suggesting that the suspect might have been wanted by San Bernardino Police for a shooting, though this was not confirmed at the scene. The crash caused a significant power outage in the area, affecting all traffic lights along E Street and potentially extending to neighboring regions. The duration of the power outage remains uncertain as repairs are underway.
