In a shocking act of violence early this morning, a homeless couple in San Diego was set on fire while they were sleeping under a large tree near the northbound I-805 offramp to San Ysidro Blvd.
The incident occurred around 4:55 a.m. when the woman, who was with the male victim, reported that a female suspect approached them carrying a red gas can. According to the woman’s account, the suspect poured gasoline over both individuals before igniting it and fleeing the scene with the gas can.
Emergency services responded promptly to the distress call. The male victim suffered severe burns to his arm, as well as additional burns to his head and body. The female victim also sustained several burns throughout her body. Both were transported to the UCSD Burn Center for urgent medical treatment.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently leading the investigation into this horrific attack. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to come forward to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
