On the evening of July 11, 2024, Houston Police Department (HPD) tactical officers were involved in a dramatic pursuit that ended in the apprehension of a shooting suspect.
At approximately 8:30 PM, officers were surveilling suspects believed to be involved in a recent shooting. As they began tracking the suspects’ vehicle near 6600 Sylvan Rd, some occupants fled on foot before officers could initiate a stop. Despite this, the driver of the vehicle refused to yield, prompting a high-speed chase through the streets of Houston.
In an effort to halt the vehicle, officers employed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver. While successful in disabling the suspect’s car, the maneuver resulted in the officers’ vehicle crashing into a tree.
Despite the crash, officers managed to apprehend the driver, who is believed to be one of the suspects involved in the shooting. During the incident, one officer sustained neck injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the officer is expected to make a full recovery.
The Houston Police Department continues to investigate the shooting and the involvement of the apprehended suspect. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
