A serious collision involving two vehicles left one driver critically injured on Sunday afternoon in South Whittier. The incident occurred at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Meyer Road just before 6 PM.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene, where they found a Ford sedan that had crashed into a traffic light pole. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was trapped inside. Firefighters arrived and used the jaws of life to free the individual, spending approximately 20 minutes extricating the victim from the wreckage.
The injured driver was transported to a nearby trauma center in critical condition. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was uninjured and remained at the scene.
As a result of the crash, the westbound lanes of Imperial Highway were closed for at least an hour while officers conducted an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
