SAN DIEGO, CA — April 3, 2025, | 3:35 a.m. driver was killed early Thursday morning after his vehicle — A male driver was killed early Thursday morning after his vehicle launched off the SR-15 overcrossing, marking the second fatal crash at the same location in just one week, authorities confirmed.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred around 3:35 a.m. as the driver was traveling northbound on SR-15 from eastbound Highway 94. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle flew off the overpass, landing in dense vegetation along the right shoulder of westbound Highway 94 below.
First responders arrived to find the wrecked vehicle off the freeway, with the driver pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
This tragic incident is the fifth fatal crash at this same overcrossing in the past year, raising serious concerns about roadway safety at the interchange. Community members and transportation safety advocates have increasingly called for enhanced guardrails, speed mitigation, and clearer signage to help prevent further tragedies.
