San Diego, CA – On January 25, 2025, at 7:40 a.m., a human smuggling boat attempting to land at Ocean Beach struck a small rock jetty, flipping and throwing multiple individuals into the water.
Up to 16 or more people were onboard. Lifeguards swiftly responded, rescuing two people from the jetty, 2-3 from under the boat, and three from open water. Others swam to shore and fled. One male in critical condition was transported with CPR assistance, while other rescued individuals were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Simultaneously, another smuggling boat landed at La Jolla’s Scripps Pier with 20 people who fled upon reaching shore. Authorities are investigating both incidents.
