The Riverside Fire Department responded to a fire at the old scout camp in the river bottom area on Scout Lane. A third alarm response was initiated due to the fire’s rapid spread in heavy brush and timber. Initially classified as a wind-driven fire, it had the potential to grow beyond 50 acres.
As of 2:30 PM, the fire is reported to be 25% contained and has burned just under 2.6 acres. Fire crews have successfully established hose lines around the perimeter, and the water-dropping law enforcement helicopter was released from duty, with no need for an additional helicopter. Incident Command has noted a significant decrease in fire activity.
