ACTON (CNS) – A fast-moving vegetation fire, dubbed the Lidia Fire, rapidly consumed nearly 350 acres of terrain in the Acton area on Wednesday, threatening nearby structures and prompting a suspension of Metrolink service.
The fire ignited early Wednesday afternoon near Soledad Canyon Road and Bootleggers Canyon. Initially burning 50 acres, the blaze expanded to 80 acres by 4:30 p.m. with 30% containment. By the evening, the fire grew to 348 acres, with containment increasing to 40%, as reported by the U.S. Forest Service.
Los Angeles County fire crews joined the U.S. Forest Service in battling the flames. Due to the fire’s proximity, Metrolink suspended service on its Antelope Valley line between Vista Canyon and Lancaster.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It erupted amid ongoing Santa Ana winds that have been intensifying wildfires throughout the region.
