Riverside, CA — On January 5, 2024, at approximately 11:04 AM, an overturned vehicle on the eastbound State Route 91 at the northbound 215 transition prompted a response from the Riverside Fire Department, Cal Fire Riverside, and California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Upon arrival, emergency units discovered a vehicle with significant damage and one individual trapped inside. Firefighters quickly extricated the patient, who was in full cardiac arrest. The driver was transported to a local hospital with CPR in progress. CHP is awaiting confirmation of the patient’s status.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle was traveling north on the eastbound 91 transition when it veered off the freeway at a high speed, striking a light pole and a brick wall on the northbound 215 transition. Witnesses reported the car was racing a white pickup truck, which continued after the crash. This information is under investigation.
CHP has impounded the vehicle for evidence, and it is unclear if drugs, alcohol, or other vehicles contributed to the crash. A SIG Alert is currently in effect for an unspecified duration.
