A 38-year-old Norco resident was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after allegedly causing a three-vehicle crash in Riverside that resulted in the death of a 75-year-old woman. The crash occurred at the intersection of Collett Avenue and Stonewall Drive, according to Riverside Police Sgt. Tim Jensen.
The incident began when the 75-year-old woman, driving a white 2005 Jeep Liberty, slowed her vehicle on eastbound Collett Avenue to make a left turn onto Stonewall Drive. Her SUV was then rear-ended by a gray 2014 Toyota Tundra driven by the 38-year-old suspect.
The impact of the collision pushed the Jeep into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with a red 2014 Toyota C-HR driven by a 70-year-old Riverside resident. The 75-year-old woman was transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries. It is unclear if the 70-year-old man sustained any injuries in the crash.
The suspect was taken into custody and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact the Riverside Police Department at 951-353-7177 or email Detective Matthew Parrish at mwparrish@riversideca.gov.
