South Los Angeles, CA — June 11, 2026 — Firefighters quickly contained a detached garage fire Thursday night in South Los Angeles, preventing the flames from spreading to nearby properties. At approximately 10:30 p.m., crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the area of 59th Street and Flower Street following reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found a detached rear garage engulfed in flames. The fire was also threatening nearby trees and a fence as it spread through the property. Fire crews deployed hose lines and rapidly applied water to the blaze, successfully stopping the fire before it could cause more extensive damage to surrounding structures and vegetation. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. During the response, firefighters noted that a truck had been parked near a fire hydrant, creating potential access concerns. Fortunately, crews were still able to connect their hoses without damaging the vehicle or delaying firefighting operations.

Riverside County, CA – Injuries are currently under examination following a motorcycle collision on Brockton Avenue on Wednesday morning, December 13, 2023.

According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, the incident occurred around 11:02 a.m. in front of the DMV office on Brockton Avenue.

Authorities reported a collision between a white van and a motorcycle, resulting in a partial traffic hazard on the roadway.

No further details, including the cause of the crash and the extent of injuries sustained, have been disclosed by officials.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Pomona, CA — A murder suspect, Anthony Fernando Montenegro, 35, has been arrested by Pomona Police for the alleged fatal hit-and-run of Andrew Lee Duarte, 42. The incident occurred on Friday, Nov. 17, near Holt Avenue and Hershey Street following a reported dispute.

Duarte sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Following an investigation, Montenegro was identified as the suspect. On Thursday, Nov. 30, Pomona Police apprehended him in Pomona, booking him into the Pomona City Jail on charges of suspicion of murder.

Authorities are seeking additional information about the incident and urge anyone with relevant details to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-622-1241. The arrest aims to bring justice to the victim’s family and hold the responsible party accountable for their actions.

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A tragic collision occurred in Lakeland Village on Monday, resulting in the death of a 56-year-old Lake Elsinore man and injuries to two others, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig.

Around 3:15 p.m., a 2006 Honda Accord traveling northbound on Grand Avenue, just south of Perret Boulevard, veered through oncoming traffic and collided with two parked box trucks, Lassig reported. The Lake Elsinore man was the sole occupant of the Accord, and the reasons for the vehicle deviating off course are currently under investigation.

The Accord, estimated to be traveling at 55 miles per hour, collided head-on with an Isuzu box truck parked on the opposite shoulder. The impact of the crash sent the parked vehicle into a second box truck, where two individuals were sitting. Unfortunately, the Accord driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the second box truck sustained minor injuries and complaints of pain.

The California Highway Patrol’s Temecula Area is leading the investigation into the crash. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin. Further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.

In California, it is estimated that around 4 million drivers on the road are uninsured despite it being a legal requirement for being on the road. For this reason alone, carrying uninsured motorist insurance is a very smart move to ensure you’re covered in all circumstances.

On average, around 15% of car accident claims involve an uninsured driver. In such an instance, if an uninsured driver causes an accident, the other driver cannot claim against their insurance as it does not exist. Therefore, uninsured driver insurance is really important to cover an individual in this instance for physical injury or damage to their car resulting from an accident where the person liable does not have the insurance policy to pay out.

When you normally claim insurance for an accident that you are liable for, your insurer will increase your insurance rate. However, thanks to California’s proposition 103, insurance providers are prevented from raising an individual’s insurance rate after claiming on their uninsured motorist policy. Essentially, using your uninsured motorist policy will not have any negative effects on someone’s policy.

How does my uninsured motorist policy work?

Uninsured motorist insurance is applicable when a car accident is caused by a driver without any liability car insurance. The insurance can cover medical bills, loss of wages resulting from the car accident, pain or suffering, funeral expenses and property damage to the other parties vehicle.

What about under-insured motorists?

This refers to when the liable party is without sufficient liability insurance to cover your claim and so your underinsured motorist policy pays out for the remainder of your claim without effecting your own insurance policy or premium. For example, if another driver crashed into you and you broke your leg and your claim was $100,000 to cover your medical bills and loss of wages, but the other driver only carries California’s minimum insurance limit for bodily injury of $15,000, your own underinsured motorist policy will pay out the remainder of the claim.

California Minimum Insurance Limits

Under California Law, all drivers are required to carry standard car liability insurance, but are also required to carry uninsured motorist coverage with minimum coverage. The minimum coverage for uninsured motorist insurance that needs to be taken out for bodily injury is $15,000 per person and $30,000 per accident. With regards to uninsured motorist property damage coverage there is a minimum of $3,500.
