San Diego, CA, November 23, 2025— A DUI suspect was taken into custody late Sunday night after a bizarre solo collision captured on a neighbor’s security camera showed the man hanging onto the outside of his own moving vehicle just moments before it crashed into a parked truck.
The incident occurred on November 23, 2025, at approximately 11:01 p.m. in the 10600 block of Esmeraldas Drive. According to the San Diego Police, the driver’s car drifted forward and slammed into a parked truck. But surveillance footage revealed an alarming detail: the suspect appeared to be clinging to the door of his car as it rolled toward the impact.
The driver told officers that his vehicle’s door “doesn’t work” and that he has to physically hold it closed while driving. Investigators have not determined whether a mechanical failure caused the door to swing open or whether intoxication impaired the driver’s ability to maintain control.
