On November 6, 2024, at approximately 10:56 PM, fire crews responded to a devastating warehouse fire located at 6536 Supply Row in Houston. Initially, a first alarm was sounded, followed by a second alarm shortly thereafter due to the intensity of the fire. A minute later, a third alarm and a mayday were issued when a wall collapsed, trapping firefighters.
Two firefighters were injured during the incident, with both being transported to the hospital by ambulance. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was reported to be in stable condition. Tragically, the other firefighter, identified as 42-year-old Marcelo Garcia, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Garcia had served with the Houston Fire Department for 10 years, with the last six years at Station 23.
This tragic incident highlights the risks and dangers faced by firefighters in the line of duty. The fire department and the community mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant.
