November 5, 2025, Highway 18 North of Upper Waterman South, at approximately 10:00 a.m., a man was killed in a devastating crash after his vehicle went off Highway 18 north of Upper Waterman and careened roughly 150–200 feet down a steep cliffside near Crestline.
Reports began coming in around 9:30 a.m. that a white sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed before launching off the roadway and over the embankment. When first responders arrived, they located the vehicle far down the cliff, along with several Good Samaritans who had climbed down in an attempt to help the victim.
Firefighters equipped themselves for a steep rescue, hiking and rock-climbing down the rugged terrain to reach the vehicle. Sadly, despite the efforts of Good Samaritans, firefighters determined within minutes of arrival that the victim had died at the scene. All additional incoming resources were cancelled.
