On the afternoon of November 4th, a high-speed police pursuit in Carlsbad took a dramatic turn when the suspect’s vehicle veered off a cliff and plunged into the ocean. The incident began around 4:00 pm when Carlsbad Police responded to a call involving a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, the suspect attempted to evade law enforcement, resulting in a “failure to yield” alert. Officers immediately requested a helicopter to aid in the pursuit as the suspect began driving erratically, disregarding traffic signals and endangering public safety.
After a brief chase, law enforcement decided to terminate the pursuit due to the dangerous nature of the suspect’s driving. However, an officer trailing the vehicle witnessed it lose control before careening over a cliff. Emergency responders, including firefighters, were dispatched to the scene, and the suspect, suffering severe injuries, was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby trauma center. Carlsbad Police continue to investigate the incident to determine additional details surrounding the pursuit and accident.
