On October 29, 2024, at approximately 3:57 PM, a serious accident occurred at the intersection of 28th Avenue and Sunset Terrace in San Mateo, involving a pedestrian and a dog who were struck by a vehicle. Emergency responders arrived to find an unresponsive female victim, bleeding from a severe head injury, alongside an injured dog. Due to the critical nature of the victim’s injuries, an air ambulance was initially considered. However, it was later determined that transporting her by ground ambulance to a nearby trauma center would be faster. The victim reportedly had a faint pulse and exhibited agonal breathing, indicating the gravity of her condition.
Authorities detained the driver of the vehicle at the scene, transporting them to the police department for an alcohol blood draw, as officers investigated potential impairment. During the response, an individual entered the crime scene to take photos and refused officers’ repeated requests to leave. Officers eventually had to intervene directly before the individual complied and left the area.
Meanwhile, the injured dog was taken by officers to a local animal hospital, with its condition currently unknown. San Mateo officials have not yet released further information regarding the victim’s identity or updates on her medical condition.
