A multi-agency response was initiated early Tuesday morning after a series of suspicious signs and packages were discovered across Ahwatukee in Phoenix. Phoenix Fire, Chandler Fire, and Phoenix Police responded to the Dignity Health medical plaza, where they encountered a sign on a tree stating “DEMS LIE.” HazMat crews and officers inspected the scene following reports that a Ziplock bag containing a white powdery substance was affixed to the sign with a biohazard warning label.
Initial radio transmissions warned that the substance could be dangerous, sparking a cautious response. Phoenix Police Bomb Squad personnel in HazMat suits removed the bag and transported it to a test table for analysis.
Additional signs with similar messaging were located nearby. A second sign outside the Family of Christ Lutheran Church at 36th Street & Chandler Blvd read “NEVER HARRIS,” prompting police to secure a perimeter around the church and close eastbound Chandler Blvd to traffic. A third sign at a shopping plaza near 50th Street & Ray Road displayed the message “DEMS KILL JEWS,” also attached with a similar bag of white powder.
Federal agencies, including the FBI and Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) teams, joined the investigation, now classified as a criminal investigation led by Phoenix Police. These agencies are examining the substance and possible connections to other incidents.
The timing of this incident is notable, as former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to attend the Arizona Democrats’ “Get Out the Vote Block Party” event in Phoenix tomorrow. Phoenix Police have not released further details, and investigations remain ongoing as local and federal teams work to assess the situation’s scope and potential risks.
