[09-27-2024] Suspect Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting in National City

National City, CA – September 27, 2024 – A significant police incident unfolded around 1:20 PM at the intersection of Mile of Cars and Hoover Avenue, resulting in the death of a suspect and injuries to a deputy.

According to reports, uniformed and undercover deputies initiated a traffic stop on a white Acura containing at least three individuals. As the vehicle came to a halt, one suspect exited and fled on foot, prompting deputies to give chase. During the pursuit, shots were fired, leading to a chaotic scene.

Authorities confirmed that the fleeing suspect was armed. In the course of the encounter, a deputy sustained injuries from glass shrapnel when a bullet struck the vehicle’s window. Fortunately, the deputy’s injuries were classified as non-life-threatening, and they were promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Tragically, the fleeing suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. The remaining two individuals in the Acura were taken into custody for questioning.

The San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, seeking to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
