San Mateo, CA — August 15, 2024 — A violent incident unfolded at Los Prados Park yesterday evening, leading to the arrest of a female suspect accused of assaulting a group of soccer players with a knife. The incident, which occurred around 7:58 PM, drew a swift response from the San Mateo Police Department.
Witnesses reported that the suspect approached a group of individuals playing soccer and, without provocation, launched an unprovoked attack. She brandished a knife, resulting in a severe injury to one of the victims. The attack left the victim bleeding heavily.
Responding officers arrived promptly at the scene and found the victim in critical condition. They administered first aid, applying a tourniquet to control the bleeding. Simultaneously, another officer located the suspect nearby, where she was being restrained by several good Samaritans who intervened to prevent further harm.
The suspect resisted arrest but was subdued after a brief struggle. She was subsequently taken into custody and transported to a local hospital under four-point restraints and wearing a spit mask to ensure safety during transport.
The San Mateo Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack. The victim’s condition remains critical, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
