Early this morning, Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers were called to assist in recovering a stolen vehicle tracked by the Casa Grande Police Department. The vehicle, a red Jeep Patriot, was reported stolen out of Casa Grande and was being monitored through a GPS tracking device.
The Casa Grande Police Department alerted DPS when the stolen vehicle entered Interstate 17 (I-17) from Interstate 10 (I-10), heading north. Troopers swiftly responded and located the vehicle near Dunlap Avenue, continuing northbound on I-17.
As the Jeep exited onto Cactus Road, multiple troopers converged and attempted to initiate a traffic stop at a red light at the end of the off-ramp. However, the suspect evaded capture and re-entered I-17 northbound, prompting troopers to initiate a high-speed pursuit.
During the chase, the suspect attempted to ram a DPS vehicle as troopers prepared to deploy a grappler device near Bell Road. In response, a DPS trooper executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the suspect’s vehicle to spin out and collide with the median wall.
Troopers quickly surrounded the Jeep with guns drawn, issuing commands for the suspect to surrender. The suspect, a male, initially refused to comply. Troopers then advanced on the vehicle and successfully took the suspect into custody.
Phoenix Fire Department crews were dispatched to the scene to evaluate the suspect, who was subsequently transported to a local hospital for a precautionary medical evaluation.
The incident concluded with the suspect in custody, ensuring the stolen vehicle’s recovery and public safety on the highways.
