One Killed, Another Seriously Injured After Nissan GTR Crashes Off Freeway in San Marcos

San Marcos, CA,07-19-2025 – A devastating single-vehicle crash occurred around 2:00 a.m. on July 19, 2025, when a Nissan GTR veered off westbound Highway 78 just west of Las Posas Road and crashed into the yard of a nearby business off Descanso Avenue. Emergency crews from San Marcos Fire and local law enforcement searched the area following a 911 call reporting a crash. They discovered the high-performance vehicle had launched off the freeway, sustaining heavy damage upon impact. Firefighters began immediate extrication efforts. The driver of the GTR was removed from the wreckage and rushed to a nearby trauma center with major injuries. The passenger, however, remained trapped in the vehicle. Despite additional efforts involving heavy extrication equipment, the passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene.
