In a tragic incident on the evening of July 10, Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies and investigators responded to a violent assault at a Little Caesars located at 16500 Wallisville Road.
Upon arrival, units discovered that a clerk at the pizzeria had been assaulted. According to reports, the suspect, who had come to pick up a pizza, became enraged over an incorrect order. The situation escalated quickly as the suspect verbally assaulted the employee, then produced a firearm, and pistol-whipped the clerk before fleeing the scene.
The employee managed to provide a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle, and surveillance footage captured the entire incident. Utilizing the Flock system, undercover deputies began searching for the vehicle, which had been flagged in the area.
One undercover deputy located the suspect’s vehicle but encountered radio communication issues. He managed to stay on the phone with another deputy, reporting his position. Tragically, during this operation, the undercover deputy was ambushed by the suspect.
Responding units found the deputy’s vehicle riddled with bullet holes and the deputy himself with multiple gunshot wounds. He was swiftly transported by patrol car to LBJ Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the 28-year-old deputy, a five-year veteran of the HCSO and member of the Violent Person’s Task Force, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The suspect is described as a black male wearing a hat and a black jersey with unidentified writing. SWAT teams have been deployed at two locations as authorities believe they have identified the suspect.
The HCSO community is mourning the loss of a dedicated deputy, as the investigation into this grievous assault continues.
