In a tragic incident on Saturday night, three individuals were fatally shot at a large homeless encampment situated near the San Gabriel River in Downey.
Downey Fire Department (FD) responded to the scene following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, Downey Police Department (PD) informed the FD that they had located three victims, all suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics from Downey FD assessed the situation and pronounced all three victims deceased on-site.
The shooting occurred at a homeless encampment directly underneath the 105 freeway. The crime scene was cordoned off with police tape as investigations began. Due to police radio encryption, further details, including suspect information or potential motives, are currently unavailable. Witnesses reported seeing a red van parked near the crime scene on the bike trail, which may be connected to the incident.
FD dispatch confirmed via phone that no transports were made by paramedics. According to Los Angeles County Prehospital Care Policy 814, all three victims met the criteria for the pronouncement of death in the field by a paramedic.
Two individuals were observed being questioned by the police, though their involvement in the incident remains unclear at this time.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
