San Diego, CA — A chaotic scene unfolded early Tuesday morning, June 17, on the southbound I-5 just south of Dairy Mart Road, where a vehicle veered off the freeway and led to the arrest of two individuals suspected of DUI and drug use. According to first responders, authorities were called to the scene at approximately 3:48 AM after reports of a car off the roadway. Upon arrival, they were forced to “stand back for PD” as a male and female exited the vehicle and began arguing and running back and forth across traffic lanes on the freeway. When California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived, they found the female lying down on the highway. At the same time, the male became combative, initiating a struggle with officers in the middle of traffic. Additional CHP officers, San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies, and SDPD units responded to assist in subduing the suspect. The male was ultimately restrained using a “Body Wrap” after continuing to resist officers even after initially being subdued. Meanwhile, firefighters attending to the female were forced to call for assistance when she became aggressive and was also taken into custody.
