Seattle, WA – A volatile protest escalated into violent clashes near the Federal Building on 2nd Avenue around 10:00 PM on June 14, 2025, involving fires, assaults, and a partial building breach. Approximately 50 individuals converged on the street, blocking traffic and aggressively targeting passing vehicles by throwing scooters and barricading them in place. Within minutes, fires were set and the crowd dispersed through several downtown blocks, reportedly timing the unrest to coincide with the Seattle Police Department (SPD) scaling back its resources for the evening. Some believe SPD personnel may have leaked internal deployment details, allowing demonstrators to act without initial resistance.SPD officers initially provided traffic control, but tensions escalated as the crowd hurled bottles, launched fireworks, and fired an SOS flare onto the building’s rooftop. Protesters ultimately breached the north ramp of the Federal Building, and fights broke out among demonstrators. Reports indicate several individuals were hit by vehicles, including a garbage truck that plowed through a protest blockade. Pepper spray was deployed, and at least one arrest was confirmed. The scale of the confrontation left SPD appearing either unprepared or unwilling to fully engage, drawing criticism from both city officials and community members.
