In the early hours of June 13, a serious collision occurred on the southbound I-15 near Victorville. Office of Emergency Services (OES) Fire Truck 6320 from the Apple Valley Fire Department, returning from a previous call, discovered a pickup truck wedged into the rear of a semi-truck trailer.
Battalion Chief 147 promptly arrived at the scene and called for a full extrication response. A helicopter was also requested to be on standby for immediate patient transport.
Video footage from the scene shows paramedics attending to a trapped patient in the pickup truck. Firefighters from multiple agencies, including the Apple Valley Fire Department, San Bernardino County Fire Department, and Victorville Fire Department, worked diligently to free the individual. They utilized specialized equipment such as spreaders and the “jaws of life” to cut through the vehicle, while additional firefighters used cribbing and airbags to lift the trailer off the pickup truck.
After extensive and coordinated efforts by all involved, the patient was successfully extricated and transferred to a waiting ambulance. The ambulance then transported the patient to the nearest freeway off-ramp at Dale Evans Parkway, where the helicopter, Mercy Air 2, was waiting. The patient was loaded onto the helicopter and flown to a trauma center for further medical care.
The Victorville CHP Office is currently investigating the incident, with the involvement of the Apple Valley Fire Department, San Bernardino County Fire Department, Victorville Fire Department, AMR, and Mercy Air 2.
