In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 15, a tragic accident claimed the life of a pedestrian attempting to cross a busy freeway in San Diego. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred around 5:20 a.m. on northbound Interstate 805 near 43rd Street. Authorities report that a female pedestrian was trying to cross the freeway when she was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling in the northbound lanes. Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, but sadly, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV remained at the site of the crash and cooperated fully with investigators. At this time, drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the incident, CHP officials confirmed. The victim’s name and age have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal collision, including why the pedestrian was on the freeway and whether visibility or road conditions may have played a role.
