San Diego, CA – A tragic single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning claimed the life of a woman after her SUV veered off the northbound lanes of State Route 15 and struck a tree, splitting the vehicle in half and sparking a fire. The incident occurred at approximately 2:35 a.m. just east of the Interstate 805 interchange. According to preliminary reports, the female driver of a Kia SUV was traveling northbound on CA-15 when, for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of the vehicle. The SUV left the roadway at high speed and collided forcefully with a large tree. The impact was so severe that it caused the SUV to split into two major sections. The engine compartment ignited on impact, while the rear portion of the vehicle came to rest nearby. First responders arrived quickly and discovered the woman in the other half of the vehicle, already deceased from the violent crash .
