A tragic single-vehicle crash on Friday night claimed the life of 35-year-old John Vielle of San Bernardino and left two others seriously injured, according to a press release issued by the Rialto Police Department. The collision occurred at approximately 10:29 p.m. in the 800 block of West San Bernardino Avenue near Idyllwild Avenue. Rialto officers arrived on the scene within minutes to find a heavily damaged vehicle that had veered off the roadway and slammed into a tree. All three occupants sustained major injuries. Emergency personnel from the Rialto Fire Department pronounced Vielle deceased at the scene at 10:40 p.m. The vehicle’s driver and a third occupant were both transported to nearby trauma centers and remain in serious condition. Preliminary findings by the Rialto Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) suggest the vehicle was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when the driver lost control. Investigators believe impairment may have been a factor in the collision, though no arrests have been made at this time. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
