A deadly home invasion attempt unfolded early Tuesday morning in the 1800 block of Saddle Rock Drive in Houston, leaving one man dead and another in custody following a police pursuit, according to Houston police. The incident occurred just before 12:45 a.m. when a woman called 911, reporting that someone was trying to break into her residence. The woman, who was home with her current boyfriend at the time, was instructed by him to hide as two male suspects attempted to force their way inside. The suspects succeeded in breaching the home. In response, the woman’s boyfriend opened fire on the intruders. Both men fled the scene—one collapsed near the street while the other escaped in a gray Jeep. Responding HPD officers quickly spotted a vehicle matching the description of the fleeing Jeep and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to yield, sparking a police pursuit that ended when the Jeep crashed into a bayou near 2715 Frick Road. The driver, believed to be the second suspect, was taken into custody, and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. Back at the Saddle Rock Drive residence, officers discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed that the deceased individual was the female resident’s ex-boyfriend. Both the woman and her boyfriend are cooperating fully with investigators. No charges have been filed at this time, but the case remains under investigation by the Houston Police Department. Police have not yet released the names of those involved, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.
