Early Sunday morning, May 11, 2025, U.S. Border Patrol agents detained up to eight individuals suspected of entering the United States illegally via a small pleasure craft that ran aground on the rocks near a La Jolla surf break known as “Hot Dogs.”The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. in the 300 block of Coast Boulevard. The exact number of people aboard the vessel at the time of its landing is currently unknown. Border Patrol agents quickly responded and took several individuals into custody after they were found on the shoreline. According to reports, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) personnel, along with civilian bystanders, were seen retrieving several gas cans that had either been offloaded or dislodged from the boat. Due to the potential hazards posed by the fuel containers, SDFD’s Hazardous Materials team was called in to safely handle and remove them. Authorities have stated that the U.S. Border Patrol has coordinated efforts to have a tow boat retrieve the grounded vessel from the rocky shoreline.
