A tragic accident unfolded Saturday afternoon in San Diego when a male cyclist was struck and killed by a Lexus sedan while riding northbound on Beyer Way near Palm Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 1:44 p.m., when the Lexus, also traveling northbound toward the City of Chula Vista, collided with the cyclist. According to preliminary information, the cyclist may have been traveling downhill and changed lanes without looking back when he was struck. The impact caused the victim to suffer major head trauma, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel. Witnesses and first responders reported visible damage and blood on the passenger side of the vehicle, consistent with the area of impact. The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and is cooperating with the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Unit, which is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. As a result of the incident, Beyer Way has been closed in both directions south of Palm Avenue while investigators examine the scene and collect evidence. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the cyclist, pending notification of next of kin.
