A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning in El Cajon when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing N. 2nd Street in the pre-dawn darkness. The collision occurred at approximately 4:46 a.m. near the intersection of N. 2nd Street and El Rey Avenue. According to authorities, a female driver was heading northbound on N. 2nd Street when a male pedestrian suddenly appeared in her lane. The man, reportedly dressed in all black, was difficult to see in the early morning light, and the driver was unable to avoid hitting him. Witnesses and police say the impact was severe—the man was thrown onto the hood, then the windshield, and ultimately came to rest on top of the vehicle’s roof. When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, the man was unconscious, not breathing, and suffering from major head trauma. Paramedics with the El Cajon Fire Department immediately began CPR and transported the victim to Sharp Memorial Hospital. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The female driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities have not indicated any suspicion of impairment or negligence on her part at this time.
