In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a semi-truck slammed into a Starbucks and a retaining wall in Oceanside, prompting a significant emergency response and temporarily shutting down part of the area due to electrical hazards. The crash occurred at approximately 4:44 a.m. at 801 N Coast Highway. According to the Oceanside Police and Fire Departments, the semi-truck collided with the structure, causing extensive damage and sparking safety concerns over live power lines. Responders found the driver trapped inside the cab upon arrival. Due to the electrical hazard, extrication efforts were delayed until San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE) crews arrived and safely shut off power to the building. Once the area was secured, firefighters were able to free the driver, who was then transported to a local trauma center with undisclosed injuries. A Starbucks employee was also injured in the incident and taken to a trauma center for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been released. City building inspectors responded to the scene and have red-tagged the Starbucks, deeming it unsafe to occupy while further structural assessments are conducted.
