Tragedy struck early Monday morning off the coast of Del Mar, just north of Torrey Pines State Beach, when a small vessel believed to be carrying undocumented immigrants capsized in the surf, resulting in at least three confirmed fatalities and multiple hospitalizations. Authorities responded to reports of a boat in distress around 6:37 a.m. First responders from local lifeguard agencies, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD), and emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene to find a chaotic and heartbreaking situation unfolding along the shoreline. According to initial reports, the 12-foot vessel was carrying approximately 18 individuals, including two children, when it overturned in rough surf. Several individuals managed to make it to shore, but others required immediate medical intervention. Rescuers began CPR on three unresponsive victims, who were later declared deceased at the scene. Multiple survivors were transported to area hospitals for treatment. One individual is reported to be in critical condition. Authorities also confirmed that several people remain unaccounted for, prompting an active search operation.
