Emergency crews responded early Saturday morning to a serious traffic collision on the eastbound 10 Freeway in Redlands, where a sedan collided with a semi-truck, leaving one person injured and temporarily shutting down the freeway. The crash occurred at approximately 1:27 AM, just west of Ford Street. According to officials from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Bernardino, Redlands Fire Department, and American Medical Response (AMR), the driver of a sedan became trapped in the vehicle after crashing into the rear of a semi-truck under unclear circumstances. Redlands Fire personnel arrived quickly and determined that the incident required extrication. Firefighters upgraded the call and successfully freed the trapped driver, who was then transported to a local hospital with injuries of unknown severity. The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed in the incident. All eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway were shut down for approximately 40 minutes as emergency responders worked the scene and cleared the wreckage. Authorities noted that this collision appeared to be related to an earlier fatal crash just a few miles east of the location, which had caused traffic to slow or stop before the secondary crash. Investigators have not confirmed whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the collision.
