A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended in gunfire late Tuesday night in South Houston, leaving a suspect in critical condition after allegedly brandishing a weapon at officers. According to the Houston Police Department, Crime Suppression Units attempted to stop a stolen Buick SUV shortly before 11:20 p.m. near the 7800 block of Tierwester Street. The driver refused to pull over, prompting a pursuit through the area. The chase came to an end when the suspect crashed the SUV near the intersection of Bacon Road and Tierwester Street. After the crash, the suspect fled on foot into a nearby apartment complex. During the foot pursuit, police say the suspect pulled out a firearm. Despite verbal commands from officers, the suspect did not comply. One HPD officer, a four-year veteran of the department, discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect. Immediately after the shooting, the officer began life-saving efforts until paramedics arrived. The suspect was transported by ambulance and is currently listed in critical condition at a local hospital. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
