April 23, 2025 – South Whittier, CA – A robbery attempt at a South Whittier marijuana dispensary early Wednesday morning ended in gunfire, leaving one man dead and two suspects still at large, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies responded around 1:36 a.m. to reports of gunfire at a dispensary located in the 13500 block of Telegraph Road, between Mills Avenue and Carmenita Road. Investigators say three armed suspects, all wearing hoodies and carrying semi-automatic handguns, stormed the business in an apparent robbery attempt. Inside, the suspects encountered two security guards, at least one of whom opened fire. It remains unclear whether the suspects returned fire during the confrontation, said LASD Homicide Lt. Steven De Jong. The suspects fled the scene in a Nissan sedan traveling eastbound on Telegraph Road. Roughly 20 minutes later, a man suffering from gunshot wounds was dropped off at PIH Hospital in Whittier. Authorities later transferred the individual, described as a 32-year-old man, to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Detectives believe the deceased man may be connected to the attempted robbery, although no official confirmation has been made. No additional injuries were reported among employees or security personnel at the dispensary.
