An alarming incident unfolded early Sunday, April 28, in the Riverside/Moreno Valley area, as a wrong-way driver triggered collisions involving five vehicles, resulting in injuries to three individuals, authorities reported.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., the errant driver was observed traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the 215 Freeway, near Eucalyptus Street. In a harrowing turn of events, the driver collided with two vehicles while traversing the transition road from the westbound 60 Freeway to the southbound 215, revealed California Highway Patrol Officer Javier Navarro in a statement to video news agency OnScene.TV.
Merely five minutes following the initial collision, the driver persisted along the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway, only to engage in a head-on collision with three additional vehicles, Navarro disclosed.
Following the chaotic sequence of events, the driver abandoned their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Subsequently, authorities located the individual near Day Street, situated just off the freeway, where they were found to have sustained significant injuries.
While the identity of the driver remains undisclosed as of Sunday, they were promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment. Subsequently, the driver was arrested on suspicion of multiple offenses, including driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and driving in the wrong direction on the freeway.
Furthermore, three victims from the five vehicles involved in the collisions were transported to a medical facility to receive treatment for a range of injuries.
