PICO RIVERA, CA – April 20, 2025 | 10:15 PM — A Los Angeles County firefighter was injured Sunday night while battling a fire at a railroad tie pile in Pico Rivera, near Passons Boulevard and Slauson Avenue. The fire broke out around 10:13 p.m. at a lumberyard near Cord Avenue and Rivera Road, not far from the 605 Freeway, according to LA County Fire Department spokesperson Fred Fielding. Flames lit up the night sky, casting an orange glow visible from nearby intersections, as crews quickly moved in to contain the fire. During the operation, a firefighter sustained moderate injuries in what officials described as an “indirect injury.” Preliminary reports indicate that a passing Amtrak train ran over a fire hose that the firefighter was holding, causing the injury. The firefighter was immediately transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where they are being treated and are expected to recover. Thanks to the swift response from LACoFD crews, the fire was fully extinguished by 10:54 p.m. No structures were damaged, and no other injuries were reported.
