AUBURN, WA – April 8, 2025 | 10:00 a.m. — A dramatic police pursuit that began in Kent escalated into a tense multi-hour standoff and structure fire in Auburn, ending with the likely death of the suspect inside the building. According to early reports, the incident began when a suspect fled from Kent police and led officers into Auburn. The suspect allegedly abandoned the vehicle and barricaded themselves inside a commercial building at 1520 Pike St NW. While details of the initial pursuit remain unconfirmed, authorities responded swiftly and activated Valley SWAT, initiating a standoff that lasted for several hours. At 2:36 p.m., emergency dispatchers received reports of a commercial fire at the standoff location. Fire crews and Medic One were dispatched but instructed to stage nearby due to the volatile and unsafe conditions. It is believed the suspect intentionally started the fire while still inside the building and refused to exit. As flames engulfed the structure, the incident escalated to a second-alarm fire, but fire crews could not engage immediately due to safety concerns. Once it was determined that no one could likely survive the conditions inside, firefighters began a full offensive attack on the blaze.
