HUNTINGTON PARK, CA — April 8, 2025 | 12:34 AM — What began as a routine response to a small outdoor fire at Salt Lake Park escalated into a fatal officer-involved shooting early Tuesday morning, leaving one man dead. Firefighters withthe LA County Fire Department responded to the scene at 3401 Florence Avenue shortly after midnight for reports of a fire in the park. Upon arrival, firefighters reported an assault in progress and quickly requested law enforcement support due to the escalating situation. Shortly after, Huntington Park Police Department (HPPD) officers arrived, and an officer-involved shooting was reported. Details remain limited, but a male suspect was struck by gunfire during the confrontation. The circumstances leading up to the shooting have not yet been disclosed. Paramedics arriving on the scene found the man unresponsive and immediately initiated CPR using a LUCAS mechanical chest compression device. He was transported to a local hospital in grave condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.
