SAN MATEO COUNTY COAST – April 5, 2025 | 5:56 PM — A dramatic cliff rescue unfolded Saturday evening along the Devil’s Slide portion of Cabrillo Highway (Highway 1), after a woman reportedly fell approximately 100 feet onto a rocky ledge. First responders rushed to the scene around 5:56 p.m., facing difficult terrain that prompted the request for aerial support. A CalFire helicopter was deployed to assist in the high-risk rescue operation . By 7:00 p.m., the helicopter arrived on scene, and a hoist rescue technician was lowered to the victim’s location. Firefighters worked in coordination with the aircrew to safely retrieve the woman, who was then transferred to an awaiting ambulance on stable ground. Witnesses reported the victim was conscious and breathing after the fall. Despite the height and rugged conditions, the woman sustained only minor injuries, according to emergency personnel. She was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
