LEMON GROVE, CA — April 4, 2025, | 5:08 a.m. — A devastating collision involving a Waste Management truck and a Ford Explorer on westbound Highway 94 near Massachusetts Avenue resulted in one fatality and a possible hit-and-run investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred just after 5 a.m., when both vehicles, traveling westbound, collided under unclear circumstances. The Waste Management truck struck the center divider, launched over the barrier, and landed on the left shoulder of eastbound Highway 94, facing the wrong direction. The Ford Explorer hit the wall and overturned, resting on its side. A man was seen fleeing from the SUV, running across eastbound lanes and leaving the scene. Another male, who was trapped inside the Explorer, was conscious and speaking initially but soon became unresponsive. After more than 30 minutes of extrication efforts by firefighters, CPR was initiated, but the man was later pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital.
