San Jacinto, CA – A man accused of throwing rocks at passing vehicles was fatally shot by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers after he allegedly began hurling rocks at them as well. The incident occurred on February 18, 2025, at approximately 5:49 p.m. at the intersection of State Street and Gilman Springs Road, just east of Highway 79. According to Officer Jonathan Torres, 911 calls reported a male suspect throwing rocks at motorists. When officers arrived, they attempted verbal commands and non-lethal measures to subdue him, but the suspect continued advancing toward them while throwing rocks . At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Authorities have not disclosed how many times the suspect was shot. Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released. The officers involved have not been named, and the motive behind the suspect’s actions remains unclear.The Riverside County Force Investigations Detail, consisting of sheriff’s detectives and prosecutors, is conducting an independent review to determine whether the use of force was justified.
